A San Diego County assembly member announced new legislation to end city bans on the cultural pastime.

I wasn't able to vote. I'm not sure what racists has to do with cruising. All through the 70s we went cruising all the time, and I didn't live in a big city. Cruising was fun. It had nothing to do with the color of our skin. And everything to do with having a vehicle.

'Low Rider', 1975 by War. Used in the opening credits of 'Up in Smoke' 1978. More Cheech & Chong music here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Alyx4QeRRdg&list...
Cruising is part of the Hispanic culture, so now the ban is racist. Liberal logic. Remember this song?

Cruising was part of everyone's culture back then. My friends and I went cruising all throughout high school and after, and that was in the very early 70s. I do remember Cheech and Chong, everyone back then knew them.
I don't understand why they have to turn everything into racism, when it's not. I also don't understand what gives anyone the right tell people they can't go cruising in their car if they want to.
I grew up in California, and everyone went cruising. Talk about totalitarians.

I voted other.
I'm confused. They've misused the term cruising and thus the poll is meaningless to me.

Put on some great rock'n'roll and just drive around. Nothing illegal about that.
They make these stupid laws just so they can turn law-abiding citizens into criminals and take our money.

I still want to know why cruising was banned in some cities in California.
What was the reason for banning cruising? I don't see anything in Merriam Webster's definition of cruising that might be dangerous or illegal what so ever.
If they used the wrong word... (i.e. cruising instead of low-rider vehicle), then they should post a retraction of currently banned laws and propose new laws that give better meaning to the law they want to implement instead of the word "cruising"!

Not enough people had their own cars to cruise where I grew up. They couldn’t afford it. A lot of families had one car and everyone shared it.
Editor's Note: The latest installment of our Through the Lens series is an intriguing detour of sorts. Rick McCloskey spent the summer of 1972 chronicling the vibrant and bustling cruising scene on Van Nuys Boulevard, a part of the booming suburban San Fernando Valley north of Los Angeles. As Rick n
