Online gaming. High resolution cameras for use in remote robotic arm surgery procedures. High resolution video streaming. High resolution monitoring/surveillance. So yeah... none of these are necessary.

Don't forget the other things necessary for some people during months of stay at home isolation - like watching a half dozen OnlyFans streams while lying nekkid on the sofa eating Doritos and drinking Mountain Dew - lol.

Or if you're an OnlyFans girl, to be able to upload high quality performances that gather enough views to buy that Lamborghini you always wanted, to race down the empty freeways during the long lockdowns, and get that adrenaline rush of being an apex survivor in the post-apocalyptic world.

Or to get the proper 3D printing data so you can make your own baseball bat, Luceille, to deal with the herd of walking un-dead and other bad guys as the apocalypse wears on.

Actually it's not the antennas - it's the underlying network, where they cc: packets of data addressed to China.

The data still has to be carried over US based optical fiber when you are sitting in, say, Miami and talking to someone in Ft Meyers. So a carrier just programs their routers and firewalls to dump anything going to Chinese IP addresses into /dev/null

Not necessarily... what about being routed to an IP address in Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco, New York or any number of other US based IP address which belong to a Chinese operative who then relays your signals via VPN to a local Chinese consulate or Embassy office and from their via satellite directly into China.

It's not really that simple to block everything. One would need Advanced Malware Protection security on their machines to stop that and most people just don't use that level of security!

FWIW

Because a lot of people are really terrified of the idea that some things, no one is in control of at all.

Man in the middle attack. And a lot of end to end encryption which should theoretically thwart that, isn't that secure when your adversary has thousands of acres of super-computers that can devote many teraflops of code cracking power to divine the plaintext.

And others are over controlled.

Some are. I think we call that micro-management.
