Ok, I replied in the pm section. I forget to look at those unless someone posts that they sent me one.

Hey Lori,

It’s great to see so many quit buddies posting again. Thanks for posting the July ‘21 group too. That added support and encouragement was so important and helpful to all of us in the beginning too. Struggling trying to make those first few weeks and months, and get to that one year milestone. Amazing that it’s three years for all of us this year. We strived so hard to get those keys, now we’re not too far out from those wings, lol. The roller coaster really does eventually become a journey doesn’t it?

I’m sorry to be so late posting. I wanted to do it this morning after posting to JR but my husband asked for help with something, then we had lunch together, followed by me having to go to town to pick up a few things from the store.

I hope you’re enjoying the Summer. Mine has had a few recent unexpected and sad moments but otherwise okay, with the exception of a spider biting me. Went to the hospital for that one. Thing bit me three times. Last bites it ever made though! First time I’ve ever been bit by one and hopefully the last. We’re also experiencing a heatwave here so I’ve got the A/C on and fans both running, actually have one of them beside me as I’m typing this, lol.

I’m sorry to hear that you caught Covid last year but am glad that you both recovered from it okay.

I’m sending you a pm. I hope you get it. Please let me know if it goes through, thanks.

I’m going to try to finish posting the others today too in between things I need to do today. I’m so glad we haven’t completely lost touch as some of those other quit buddies and threads have. Though we are missing a few that I hope we’ll hear from again sometime. That would be great too.

I don’t want to cut this short but I need to go attend to something again. I’ll be back on later to post the others though.

Again, it’s great hearing from you and I hope we’ll all talk some more soon.

Lol. Have a great day.

Hey Cindi,

Sending you so many good thoughts and wishes your way.

You have been through so much over the past 3+ yrs. we’ve known you. I’m so sorry to hear about your parents health issues and your husband’s too. You’ve got so much on going on. You are all in my thoughts and I wish all of you the best. Please don’t forget to take care of yourself too. I hope you can get the other stuff sorted out soon, so at least you won’t have to worry about that and can just concentrate on yourself and your love ones.

Thank you for taking the time in the middle of everything going on to post to the July ‘21 group too. Those encouraging words and support mean so much when others further along post. I remember how much that meant to all of us. I continue to try to help here on the forum and occasionally post on our thread to keep that going too. I haven’t heard from Mike in a long time. I hope he’s okay.

Good luck with your husband’s doctor tomorrow. I can’t say I blame you one bit for wanting to tell the doctor like it is, or for being upset with your husband for acting that way. It’s not just us individually, what’s wrong with us does affect our family members too. He should realize that. Idk, maybe he’s scared of what he might hear, that’s a possibility too, but nonetheless I hope you get the answers you need Friday, or at the least a good idea of what’s going on.

I hope everything goes okay with your parents doctor too and that the doctor can help you and your Dad with the in-home care your Mom needs.

I hope your daughter is doing well.

I wish you and your family the best with everything that all of you are going through.

Hugs.

Hey Marilyn,

It’s great to hear from you!

I remember you telling me how stressful the job had become for you. I’m glad you were able to retire.

I’m sorry to hear about your brother’s cancer though. I’m so glad to hear he’s doing good with his treatments. I hope the surgery goes good too. I’m also sorry to hear about your sister-in-law having Alzheimers. That’s sad. You said your niece was coming in August and you’re going back to Maryland but you also mentioned returning to New Jersey in September. Is that just for his surgery or are you going to be staying there again for a while? It sounds like you and Cindi both have a lot going on. As with her, I wish you and your love ones the best too.

I can only imagine how much little Charlotte has grown now. I’m sure you are excited and looking forward to hugging those Grandkids again next month. I know how much it means to you to be close to them.

I’ve got a few projects I’m hoping to complete before the Fall. I’m also hoping to take another trip before Fall. One of my cousins who lives along the coast is also hoping I’ll come there but I really don’t think I’m going to do that right now. I’ve already got these projects going on and this other trip I’m wanting to take. We’ll see how it goes I guess.

It’s late so I’m going to go ahead and post this but we’ll talk again soon.

Have a good night.

Hey Brian,

It’s wonderful to see so many of us posting here again. You, me, and Cindi have all posted in response to Raine too. I hope she returns and makes it. Michele is still quit, as is Tom. They both posted earlier this year and were doing good. It was nice to hear from them too. As I was telling Cindi, I haven’t heard from Mike in a long time. I hope he’s okay. I’m not going to make this a real long post because I’m going to answer your email, but I did want to reply here and say how great it is to see you and the others posting here again. Talk more soon.

Great to hear back from you. Please don't feel bad about not posting. We all have more important activities when involving family, work, etc. I was glad to hear that you resigned that one job since, if I recall correctly, you were never comfortable with the senior staff there. I hope you find something more in tune where you end up. I've only been through Maryland and NJ once, land of soft shell crab. Nice to have family to RR with between activities.

I am the one who should be posting regularly since my life is pretty stable right now. My kids are doing well. My Marine Corp son is finally approaching a college degree. Only took him 15 years after getting his head back together from Iraq. My older son is actually planning to retire by age 40.  Both live with great girlfriends, but we do not expect any grandchildren. Neither are planning to ever have children. We are okay with that even though so many people around us have grandchildren to hug.

I will have to come up with more activities for myself as I settle into retirement, volunteering activities, etc. I may go back to coaching baseball, umpiring, refereeing football, etc. to stay busy. Really cannot yet travel as much as I would like until my wife retires.

Other than golf and honey-dos, we just worry about the heat and forest fires. Last fall we had several fires that got within 20 miles of where I live, which caused terrible smoke. We had to stay indoors for a week last fall, then clean up all the ash that covered everything around the house.

Please feel free to give me a shout if you want to type chat at anytime and I will respond. I hope you get settled in your new locale and find the work you are looking for.  Great not having to deal with our constant wish to quit smoking some day. I don' t think about it much. Played golf with a cigar smoker yesterday and for a brief period thought that maybe I could smoke cigars, which quickly led to me believing that if I puffed one cigar, my next step would be to buy a pack of cigarettes. No worries tho.

Take care and we will talk again soon.

Thank you so much for your reply. I am so glad to hear that you are doing well and, most importantly, staying quit.  Yes, my wife was very nice to allow me to retire at age 63. Took a lot of housekeeping and cooking promises to achieve that. I do love to cook and bake. My son bought me a smoker present, so a new toy to test smoking recipes. My favorite is baking, but it is so hard to bake well. I am amazed at the bakers on TV or at the stores, plus I think baking requires an artistic personality that I lack.  I just like to stick to recipes and the science, not the iced roses and dodads. I like breads and muffins.

I do love golf, not sure why. Maybe because it is such a difficult sport to master, always something to improve on. I equate golf to a NASA mission, requires a design phase and launch phase. If either one is off, you will miss the moon. Golf is similar and the other plus is that there is something about golfers, a certain humility, that makes most of the people I play with really nice folks. I am not one to play with the same guys every day like some here. I purposely try to play with everyone I know here and join up with folks I don't know. It is rare that I play with a jerk. Golfers are just nice. Been so beaten up by the game that we can  easily commiserate with each other.

I was born and raised in Las Vegas and am not much for the casino scene. My Portland, Oregon wife loves the bells and whistles around the slot machines. I will play cards and craps some, but have never had a problem walking away from the tables. The main reason we are going down is to probable see my aunt and uncle for the last time - they are in their 80s. I have a cousin there as well, but we are not close. We are not that close. Kind of fell away when I moved out of Nevada.

Oh well, you are up to date with me. I would always love to hear from you and any of our other quit friends so feel free to reply. I hope your health remains good (I have an echo test coming up on my heart, but other than that my last check up was good) and you have a great summer. We will talk soon.
