Hi JR,

I hate that you’ve had to go through all of that with your cpap machine and the oxygen. I’m sure it’s no fun feeling like you have no energy at all. So you did get the oxygen for the machine? My husband also uses a cpap. He says he can really tell when he doesn’t use it at night or if he takes the mask off early. I don’t sleep as well either if he’s not wearing it! The snoring!
I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t have another statewide mask mandate here. Our youngest son is starting to school at UAB this fall. They have issued mask mandate. Everyone has to wear a mask indoors in all buildings. Peeps need to get vaccinated!
I hope that you will pick up your quilting again soon! That’s one of those things that I could see myself doing. I certainly have the equipment for it. I have a friend that’s an artist. A few years back she decided she wanted to learn to quilt. She designed some quilts and entered them into a show and won several categories. The little old ladies were furious!! Haha! one of these days I’m going to make one. I was looking at the quilts from QuiltCon recently. So creative. That would also be a great show to go to.

I am so surprised at your solar ovens. So weird! I have never seen anything like those. I guess the craziest cooking I do is in the instant pot.

talk soon!

Gloria,

It’s just a few minutes after midnight here and is now your three year anniversary! Congratulations on a very successful quit and thank you for supporting so many of us with our quits as well. I really don’t think I would have made it through that first year without you cheering me on and being a foundation of support for me.
I hope you do log in to the forum today to celebrate your success.

Gloria,

Huge congratulations on your third smoke free year! I hope you have fun celebrating and that your day is as awesome as you are. Happy quit-versary!

Hi Lori,

SO wonderful to hear from you and see your msgs here. Happy Happy 3 yr Quitaversary!! Glad you made it thru and still a Quitter. So Sorry to hear you & Hubby had covid in Nov and even though you were very sick, you did not have to be hospitalized. One of my friends got it last year and was hospitalized for 4 days--she said it was the sickest she ever been in her life.

And we made it thru the pandemic thus far without smoking!! Glad you still bike riding and your hubby is smoke-free as well.

Hey JR,

Thanks Bud for the celebratory message. Made it to 3 years smoke-free--I am still JOYFUL and THANKFUL to be a non-smoker. We made it thru!! Thank you for your lovely card and condolence msg about my Dad. That was SO thoughtful and considerate. I am doing ok, still emotional and grieving. My baby bro who is the youngest and always ADORED and felt like the sun rose and set on Dad is completely devastated and having difficulty coping with Dad's death. I hardly hear from my siblings now. I feel totally alone and socially isolated now. A new chapter in my life. I have to find something to do with the rest of my life now. Never thought about smoking one time with the worst stressor I could have (Dad's death). I am thankful to not be a smoker.

I am trying/hoping to find some SC or GA peaches to make my peach ice cream this year. Gonna make some for my family reunion on Aug 14. (Will use VA peaches if don't find any other by then...just have to use more sugar).

Hard to get my thoughts together today to say what I wanna say about this 3 yr Quit journey. I am emotional, Happy, Joyful, and Proud of maintaining my quit. I am still a Warrior on the battlefield...just don't have to fight as hard now. I still have an occasional thought about a cig when I have coffee. My brain has not let that connection go yet. I have a biscuit with coffee for breakfast now and I noticed if I eat the biscuit first, then have my coffee, my brain pings CIG. No craving but it just remembers that I would drink coffee and light up each morning for 40 yrs. It does not ping if I take drink the coffee and eat biscuit together. After meals and coffee were my biggest triggers when I quit.

My mantra remains: I will never smoke another cigarette in my life...I LOVE being a non-smoker too much. Thanks for being one of my best buds and supporters on this difficult journey. We made it...Let's keep going. Working on our wings...

Let's keep kicking Cig Butt!!

Thanks Denim. Yes 3 yrs...and no going back. I kicked nicodemon's butt and refused to lose. What a roller coaster ride it was but we made it. I am emotional, Joyful & Thankful today. This forum was my lifeline from Aug 2018 - Oct 2019...till everything went quiet. We forgot about cigs and life goes on. I have gone back to read Smoke Free Warriors 2018 thread a few times to see what we were going thru at that time. I was addicted to and needed this forum EVERYDAY then. The support was phenomenal...helped me make it thru.

I LOVE being a non-smoker. I will NEVER  go back to smoking: I enjoy being a non-smoker too much. I do not miss cigs in my life and do not feel like my life is missing something. Smoking would not have helped me at all when I lost my Dad 3 months ago. Glad I have REAL coping skills now.

Thanks for all of your support on this journey. I would be on here more if my buddies posted more. I tried to keep this thread going. I am online more now since sitting home alone everyday. Like to say hello to all my buddies. Sent you a PM.

Hi Gloria,

So so sorry to hear about your dad passing.  I know taking care of him was a big part of your life.  Because of covid, things have changed so much.  I believe you said you were working a while back at a school.  Were you able to continue with that during Covid?

Broken bones take forever to heal!  I sprained my ankle about 15 years ago and it took a good two years for it to feel somewhat normal and another significant amount of time for it not to give out on me.

The last couple of months have been much better.  I still miss my sweet doggie, but adopted a new one.  My other dog Captain seemed very depressed after she passed.  I adopted a new dog from a local shelter here.  I named her Evie.  She was underweight and had lots of skin issues that are clearing up.  Had to get her some shots at the vet for allergies.  She is young so she has lots of energy but she gets along well with Captain and is adorable.  I will have to post a picture later.  She has really big ears like a gremlin.  LOL

My sister is coming out to visit in August with my niece so I am looking forward to that.  Still working and I worked throughout the pandemic.  Want to plan a trip with my boyfriend to go somewhere but still trying to figure out a place.  I have never taken a nice tropical vacation.  Thinking about Hawaii or cancun or some place like that.

Anyway, congratulations on three years!!!   So nice not to think about smoking as I remember how difficult those first few months were.  Glad we are all keeping in touch too.  Hope you are having a great summer!
