14 years ago today I had my last cigarette. Back then I was on the old forum site for this group (about.com)
Quitting was one of the best decisions of my life and one of my top accomplishments for which I am proud of. It was also really freaking hard.
If this is your day one (or your "I've lost count of how many times I've tried to quit" day one) you can do this.
Early on I believed that the desire for a cigarette would be with me for my entire life. I don't know when it happened, but it did and it didn't take years (a few months yes but not years) - I have zero thoughts of considering smoking again. I don't want it and I don't need it.
If I recall correctly our group was the Sept-Ember Extinguishers 2008. If any of my old stop smoking buddies are on here a big hello, virtual hug, and NOPE from me, SeattleK.

Hi Krista,
I also was on the about.com site and quit four years after you. It took me longer though to fully accept that I was in fact a nonsmoker, instead of a smoker who wasn't smoking.
Cheers

Congratulations to YOU. Many of us are old timers here on the web-site.
Wish like crazy, I would have found the web-site sooner....but thankful (so thankful to the Forum) and to God, that I managed to quit.
Keep on keepin on....as our dear friend from the Forum would say.

Hi SeattleK,
I too was on the About site that many years ago but wasn't successful in any of my quits then. But now I have been smoke-free for 4 1/2 years so the forum definitely works. Congratulations on 14 years!!! That is an awesome accomplishment! Also thank you for posting here so others know (especially those new to their quit) that this terrible addiction can be conquered and overcome.
Have a great day!

Congratulations on 14 years! That is really a great accomplishment. Like you, I am not sure when, but the desire to smoke completely left me. It is such a struggle in the beginning but it goes away and this can be done!

It is so thoughtful and kind of you to take the time out and share your inspiring story! It helps me a lot. I have been trying to quit for forever. I think this time around for me will finally work!

Congratulations! I also used this forum when it was about.com and also wasn't successful right away. I am now at 11 years! Since I last posted here about a year or two ago I have another accomplishment - I helped my mother quit smoking. I got her Chantix for the 3 months and she's now at almost 1 year smokefree after 40 years of smoking, just incredible! She's a fighter, even though it's been hard. I am her support forum, all in one. Thanks to this place thousands of people are getting equipped to fight the nicodemon. Wishing everyone many great milestones on the way to happy smokefree life.
