This reminds me of a conversation I had with my hairdresser. She mentioned that she has a heavy smoker friend who routinely has her lungs Xrayed because she is scared of getting lung cancer. My immediate reaction was "what for?" If she does finally get diagnosed with lung cancer, or emphysema, THEN she will quit?
The concept of hitting bottom for an addict can be misleading and dangerous. What is 'Bottom'? what are you waiting for? A grim diagnosis? would that be the bottom? You are already at a bottom if you think of it. Your mom died from it, your dad will probably from it, you are sneaking around your 26 year old daughter, to continue poisoning yourself with the same chemicals that killed your own mother at 59, potentially subjecting her to the same untimely loss. The bottom is bottomless. You are already suffering the consequences and yet, you find it hard to stop. That is not because there is something wrong with you, or because you have not hit some kind of bottom, it's because you are an addict. You can only stop if you want to quit more than you want to smoke. And then you have to work on it. It's going to be a job for awhile. If you don't use scientific knowledge and tools of distraction for dealing with the "I deserve a smoke" ( many recommended here) it probably wont work. Make it your job to quit!
