With shell.  I remember my grandmother brining walnuts & chestnuts over. Told us not to use the nutcracker, since it was good exercise to break with our hands. Not sure that made any sense :)

Peanut or cashews.

grin WOW, Grandma must have had some strong hands! The only nuts I could crack open with my hand were peanuts and pistachios.

Cashews

Pumpkin or sunflower seeds?

The concept was to use one to break another. She didn't like technology. Used a wooden spoon to make mashed potatoes and whipped cream. Told my bother a blender ruined food. :)

Sunflower, though I'm not sure I could taste the difference.

Granola or muesli.

Yes, sour cream when mashing, stirring, mixing or blending. grin Paul, your grandma was probably a wonderful cook!

I have made butter by whipping the crap out of cream.

No, but I do hold my breath going through a tunnel

So that really works with making butter?

Oh yeah, there’s that one too! stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes Yes it does, but it has a different texture. My friend’s mother, when I was in high school, always engaged us in different cooking skills that weren’t used much anymore.  We even pulled taffy once!

No skins.

Favorite taffy flavor?  Mine is cinnamon

Watermelon. Can't say I eat taffy unless I'm in Atlantic City.
