It's going well, thanks so much for asking it's been a little bit triggering being at work, I have had cravings but they passed quickly.

It's like reprogramming: every situation/ place/ person triggers the old programme and a trigger flags up 'you have a cigarette now'.. I am determinedly reprogramming every time this happens ( I have been thinking about triggers and when they will appear in advance so I'm prepared).

I'm pretty good, better than I've been in a while. I'm on day 53, and the pangs are getting less often. I don't have many more of my little patches left, so we will see how that goes. You're really smart to plan ahead for triggers. Being prepared is a great idea. I think I could've saved myself some pain had I been better at that. You're doing great and it sounds like you're committed to quitting!

53 days is a good chunk of time, TinyBadger, nicely done! I'm glad the pangs are getting less frequent for you. Are you going to try and have something instead of the patches? Have you tried the NRT chewing gum? X

Well, I went to a freedom from smoking class (the American lung association puts it on) and the pharmacist there suggested that because I smoked 2 packs a day I should use the patch and lozenges. Im currently on the smallest patch- the 7 mg. I'm also using the smallest lozenges- 2 mg. I only use 2 or 3 lozenges a day, and I've got a ton left. I figure I'll keep the lozenges handy until I run out, then I'll be off all nicotine. Using both does sound like overkill, but it truly has been a lifesaver. Everytime I needed a pick-me-up or a celebration, I smoked. I smoked to wake up in the morning and go to bed at night. I really smoked a lot to deal with stress. I know nrt isn't for everyone, but it's been instrumental in breaking the behavior and triggers for smoking. Now I've had to learn better ways to manage my stress and feelings, and to communicate better to people around me. I feel like I'm changing a lot about me, not just my addiction. You're very brave for writing a journal. I like reading about what you're going through so I don't feel so alone.

Good morning TinyBadger, how are you travelling? That's good that the NRT has been helping you. I'm glad if my journal helps you too, it is helping me to stay focused and track the progress. I hear you about changing a lot of things! I have been using aromatherapy, yoga, breathing techniques and walking & swimming to help manage the stress. I'm feeling a bit tired today as I've been waking up in the night /earlier than usual. Wishing you a lovely day x

Reasons:

Higher energy levels
Mental freedom, from thinking about quitting or health concerns, etc.
A clearer voice
A clearer throat
Clearer airways and sinuses
More time being present
Being an inspiration, or at least not a negative influence, on the people around me
Better health
Cleaner, healthier teeth
Fresher breath
Less wrinkles and brighter skin
Nicer smell
Clean car
More money
Cleaner environment
Greater confidence
Increased happiness / well-being

I smoked at work. The day before yesterday and again yesterday. 12 hour shifts in this awful humid heat, with a lack of sleep, I was really struggling with my mood and it got the better of me. 

I've looked at what I can try to adapt for a similar situation in the future. I felt a bit disappointed, but it's okay. I'll take the lesson and go on with my journey.

Ok Em...

Not the end of the world. Will be better if you stop now though as you haven’t really lost your quit yet I think. Somewhere here is a “Dear John” letter that hit home for me early on. Have you seen it? 
Sounds a bit like romancing the smokes...well...they are a bad awful date. I had one day where I smoked 8 as a totally mindless (and stupid) kind of thing in early June. Haven’t since. This is gonna be a struggle for a while...so settle in and accept that. Sometimes...what we resist persists. Maybe when you get those craves after a long shift you need something waiting? Are you using NRT? That’s not the end of the world. If not...maybe get some nicotine gum and really be committed to yourself that it is the ONLY option. You may not use it, but maybe just having it there...?

We are here for you. It really isn’t too late to just dust yourself off and go look in the mirror with a mantra of “I am worth this” over and over again. Cause you are.

Don't worry about it! We all have our off days. You keep on keepin on! You are absolutely right, this is a journey. Quitting smoking is a difficult thing to do, and you work on it every day. So what? You had a few smokes. Don't let it deter you from continuing to quit. Post an sos before you smoke so we can help you through it next time. Or have a plan. For instance, if you know that around 3 you want to smoke, go for a walk, have a piece of hard candy or gum, or switch tasks for a little bit. I believe you can do this.

Thanks for the supportive messages! It's 40 days since I've last had any nicotine and I have no regrets or desire to go back to smoking. All the best wishes to you both and everyone else on this journey to greater freedom, health and well-being x
