What Are You Working On Now?   General Discussion

LOL!!!. I just rotate the types of quilts...easy with challenging ones, HST with 4 patch or paper piecing, etc. Same thing with the type of fabrics. It keeps my interest. :P

After my little fit yesterday I decided to tidy up my pile of stuff I brought with me that I don't have what I need to work on. It is all now neatly folded with the patterns I am going to use in a nice plastic cabinet with drawers. So I found a jacket that I started in Washington...........when I lived there the first time like back in the late 1990's. It is made out of a knit that looks like a suede snakeskin in a nice rust color. I always liked it but it was too boxy and was cropped at the waist so it never got finished. It is fully lined as well. Somewhere over the years of floating around the sewing room I actually must have tried it on and pinned the side seams to nip it in just enough so it is more flattering. I grabbed it in the past few months and dragged it up to Colorado to try to finish it. Well it was one of the things I scooped up to bring back down here to work on and I grabbed the right color thread to do the alteration and finishing. I have done the fix on the side seams, tried it on and it looks great. I am now in the process of hemming the bottom, then will also hem the linning to the bottom and hem the sleeves and it will be a finished project. It will be a nice jacket for Spring when you just need something to take the chill off. I hope to get it finished today or tomorrow.

I am also thinking about switching to working on quilts next and am starting to be a bit more excited about sewing in general the past few days since I have made myself work on something each day. It is kinda one of those things that the hardest part of working on something when you are not wanting to is that you just start..............once you are going it is much easier to keep going.

I am enjoying the snow out the window. It is melting fast but it sure is pretty............likely the last snow we will get this year here and the moisture is slowly melting into the ground rather than just running off.

My sister is a therapist in KS.  She says they have about one more week and then she will get switched to the hospital side- which means they will be on call when they need a therapist in the hospital itself or for any other job that needs doing that they might be able to do. She figures stocking and other miscellaneous jobs that need doing to lighten the loads in other areas.
she is ok with that, but not looking forward to it.

Well, today’s project is an interesting one.  At least not a normal run of the mill job.

My friend with an autistic adult child needed her weighted blanket washed and repaired.  I bought this (along with mutual friends) many years ago because I did NOT want to make one even though she requested it often.  Anyway, it is a day long project opening it up, removing the insides and washing.  The covering Will need to be replaced but I don’t have the fleece needed to do that.  So next time!

i have the repairs made and now need to sew the weighted insides back onto the sides and turn it RS out.  The killer here is that the weighted inside weighs something like 30 or so pounds.  It’s a pain to work on.

I just pulled my PTAs and COTA into the office to do clerical work.  They appreciate it.  They are valuable employees and need to be looked after so we can all weather this.  Once we get through this mess, the surgeons that have been out of work for 3 months are going to lose their minds and cut on anything that stands still long enough.  We are going to need our therapists!  We are doing everything in our power to keep ours with us and happy until then.  Of course then we will be so busy they are going to be begging for help.  Feast or famine.

Our nurses are being run ragged right now, it's crazy.  In July I'm hoping we can do a bunch of therapy only admits and give the nurses a bit of time off.  That will never work, but a girl can dream!

Sounds good to me! I miss just therapy patients. Still a lot of work for us, but not the same as this!

You are a blessing to them.

The church asked our quilt group if we could make the staff about 30 masks.  We have shared the load so I'm making 5.  Trying a new pattern with a pocket.  They are cut out.  Will sew in the morning.  I have some shop towels from Nyla and will include a few filters with each mask.

Feast or Famine!  Hard to get a nice balance to keep everyone happy.  Dream on!
