I use a lot of black also to set off my brights. Never thought of buying a bolt. Good idea.

I finally went to buying a whole bolt because I had several big pieces of different blacks and they don't always play together well. Now I don't have to worry about having enough of the same black.

I used to buy bolts of Kona black some years back. I should get another bolt because like you said the shade from bolt to bolt is different. I once heard that the overdye other colors so I bleached some of my black scraps, some bleached to light green and some to light orange.....no wonder they were different.

Last night I finished a Christmas quilt that was more than 2 years in the making. By Fall 2021 I had the top put together and planned to give it to my sister for Christmas. I had sent it to Carrie to quilt but was overcome by events and didn't get it bound in time for Christmas so I picked it up a couple weeks ago and finished the binding. It still needs a label but I have plenty of time for that. Hope she likes it.

That's a very cute quilt.
Smile as you say "Better late than never" and I'm sure your sister will enjoy the story about the delay.

While home for Thanksgiving DD mentioned she had lost her sewing kit that had her needles & thread. I got to thinking, I could put together a nice "real" sewing kit for her for Christmas. I decided to copy a little makeup case I had bought years ago, but using some llama fabric. The fabric I found at HL not only had llamas, it has cats, ice cream & donuts (a few of her favorite things....). I put in the normal sewing kit stuff, plus some non-sewer aids (hem mending tape, temporary double stick fabric tape). I included the nifty needle threader we got at the AZ retreat several years ago as it works so well but I rarely use it. Also made a little llama pincushion. I'm working on the embroidery feature of my old Janome to make a "made by Mom" label for it. I made a mistake on the measuring - forgot to include the width of the zipper when I made the pattern, so it's not as deep as I had wanted. But it still works. I've got pins, needles, thimble, good fabric scissors, thread, safety pins, good seam ripper, measuring tape. Anyone had other ideas of things to include?
