Memories of 3 Dudes   Show and Tell

Started Apr-26 by JulietDeltaOscar (fixin2quilt); 401 views.

I've been getting stuff about 3 Dudes popping up in my feed lately - most recently (well, a few months back) Rob Appell (used to be "Man Sewing," now "Making it Fun") has posted at least one video (maybe more) about collaborating with Ray at 3 Dudes, using Ray's pattern(s) to make quilts with Michael Miller fabrics.  This video is from back in September:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=augyDMg0Ahk    Man, I wish I had that guy's energy!  And a few years ago, Ray also collaborated with Jenny Doan, and she used one of his patterns in one of her videos.

One of the highlights of the VOS Quilters retreat in Phoenix was visiting 3 Dudes Quilting, right across the street from the hotel.  Sadly, the shop is gone now, but 3 Dudes carries on - now 3 Dudes Quilting Designs:  https://3dudesquiltingdesigns.com/pages/about-us

I hate that the shop went out of business - I know that I personally purchased enough fabric there to support the shop for many years.  haha  JK  But srsly, it was one of the best quilt shops ever!  We can still watch video tours of the shop on YouTube, and Ray still makes video trunk shows and is still creating patterns.  Yay!  Here's a couple of videos about the shop.  Great memories of shopping there.

3 Dudes trunk show from a year ago, before life was turned upside-down:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1PBqikIa_0

An episode of Quilt Roadies from 4 years ago, featuring 3 Dudes:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abN-glgaEUg

And this is how the shop looked at Christmas in 2015 - so pretty:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwwmmlbuNzA

There are several other 3 Dudes videos on YouTube as well. Enjoy!

Ray would open the shop to us on Saturday afternoon for a shopping spree and a short show/demo of one of his patterns.  I remember the time when he showed us this black & white quilt using the "Fat Quarter Shuffle" pattern - I have always liked this pattern.  I know I have it around here somewhere!

I think of them often.  Ray recently turned 75.  3 Dudes was the closest quilt shop to where I lived before I moved.  He sure knows how to use strips!  I have a couple of his patterns that I haven't made yet.  Maybe after I finish some of these UFOs.

It’s funny that you posted this just now!  Ray just visited our guild with a trunk show!  We enjoyed it immensely.  So we are having an class from him the end of May!
it was good to talk to him again.  He has missed being able to teach until just lately, so gave us a great deal on having him.

Thanks! I have Ray and their page on my FB, tho he just posts roses generally. Wish he'd post updates for real. They were great guys!

Maybe we should get him as a trunk show to retreat?! I'd love to see him again!
