interesting use of embroidery & yoyos   General Discussion

Something about those little embroidered circles sitting on top of the fabric is so appealing.  I like how she didn't stitch along the edge but attached by sewing from the back.  Just makes me want to touch them.

Makes it 3-D.  Another potential handwork project for you?

no.  I've decided to do another Christmas thing - not that I'm that enamored of Christmas quilts, but I found a pattern that I'm going to personalize with items of significance to our Christmas traditions.  I'm currently trying to draw a three-legged donkey on honor of the nativity one that DD broke when she was five and has been standing so ever since.

My Mom bought a navity set when she was 19 and on her own.  The figures were made of painted plaster and the manger was cardboard, printed to look like wood.  When I moved out on my own, she gave me the set.  It is one of the treasures that I have.

There is a tiny baby Jesus to fit into the manger.  *MY* girls, when they were growing up, heard that story many times.   AND they probably played with the navity set when I wasn't looking.  As it so happened, disaster struck when, one year, they couldn't find the cardboard manger.  I'm sure they were terror-struck.  :-)

Raised to think of solutions (and in an attempt to pull the wool over my eyes so I wouldn't become angry), Catherine (our oldest and probably the instigator), fashioned a replacement manger out of brown Fimo clay.  :-)   (It didn't fool anyone!)

Well, later on, the original cardboard manger was found (hooray!) but I've kept the Fimo replacement all these years.  :-)

Addendum: have you see the meme where someone put a baby Yoda in the navity scene, alongside the Wise Men?   LOL!

A personalized Christmas quilt will be a family treasure for sure.

What a great idea. Our little baby Jesus hand got mysteriously broken off one year. And payed ever so gently back in the cradle with him by the “not me gang” lol
