well, it would be a good idea to read how big a pattern makes before you cut a bunch of fabric - I was thinking lap quilt but it actually makes queen size.  Ah well.  Big lap.

why thank you!  You did your part my dear.  Much of the ombres came from you.  Sorry for the poor grammar.

Twin - gee that's a lot of hexies - how big are these again?  I think an entire twin of those would be too busy - you may want some solid ones, places to rest your eyes.

These hexies are 3.5" on a side.  Originally, i was going to just smoosh all the Hollow Cubes together, using this as inspiration:

See how all the Hollow Cubes are monochromatic?  That's why I started that way.   AND THEN, I saw this one:

oooooooo ... different colors!  and some of the Hollow Cubes seem to glow from within.  Hmmm.   AND they aren't all smooshed together.  I like the space.

AND THEN, I found directions for making other 3D Hollow Cubes, like this one:

So, **right now**, I'm leaning towards NOT smooshing them all together .. to intersperse other Hollow Cube with 3D elements and negative space, precisely for that area to rest the ol' eyeballs.   And that's why the twin size came to mind because I'll have the space to add all those OTHER kinds of Hollow Cubes.

And that's why this is a genuine Forever Project. :-)

LOL!   a big lap quilt for 2 or 3 people. :-)

The colors are glorious!

The smooshed together reminds me of my 1st forever project.  I don't like how mine turned out at all, it needed some places to rest.  Makes my heart hurt to think of how much time I spent on it and it's put away in a cabinet.

But back to yours, I ran across this in my photos, from the Houston show several years ago.  I guess I was thinking about making one at some point.

I like the second sample picture better than the first...

Yup!   I have that photo, also, as additional inspiration.  That one is neat because the "frame" is light/medium/dark in one color and the "walls" are light/medium/dark in a different, contrasting color but each shade is *still* properly placed ... the dark frame of color 1 is opposite the dark wall of color 2, etc.

At this point, all I need to do is the mindless assembly of the hexies.  When it comes to assembling the *top*, then I'll see what size I have, where all the hexies should be placed and if I need to make more to fill in holes.

Yup!  Me, too.  And I do like the idea of putting some 3D pop-up hexies in there, just to break up the Hollow Cubes.  At least, the idea sounds good in my head.  We'll see how it goes when it's assembly time!
