Bobbi,
That is going to make a great quilt! And I bet you pile of strings hardly got any smaller! Amazing how far they will go!

I didn't even begin to bring my stash of strips - and yet I still 'managed' to make quite a mess!

Very glad to learn you two are home safely.  What an adventure but your excellent planning and scheming sure hit the weather windows perfectly.  What a team!!!  Like Dee & Ronnie's adventure and planning.  Very impressive y'all!!

Bobbi you sewed so many string blocks!  I saw you were focused on sewing something but I never ventured over to see what you were working on!  They look great!  So glad you joined us again this year.

I looked back at my notes and rediscovered it was in January 2008 that I made my own string blocks.  The pattern is called "God's Eye" and I put a wide, central diagonal in black to start each block.   To assemble them, I used narrow, black sashing.  I then put a scrappy border around the whole thing.

It ended up being a king sized quilt ... and yes!!  It *IS* quilted!  I used it on our king size bed.  :-)

What I discovered, because I was using all of my own scraps (that, like you, I quickly became tired of), I was remembering all the projects and articles of clothing that the scraps came from.  Instead of being a charity quilt, this quilt became a memory quilt for me ... I kept it.

There's no danger of not being able to make another string block quilt for charity .. those things multiply in the dark of night!  :-)

and this is how I quilted it ... the quilting motif can be seen better with the yellow drawing.

It was 3am when we finally pulled into the truck stop.  We had hit that very small window of clear weather perfectly because as we were arriving at the truck stop, we heard that snow was falling at the Pass.  Whew.

Yay, you hit the window just right! Glad you got thru without getting stuck somewhere!

Great strings!  But they do multiply in the dark, you never use them all!! You did have a pile over in your corner. It was fun seeing you again!!

And thanks to those who brought oranges and lemons!!  Since I didn't go crazy buying fabric at

SAS, I had room for some oranges and lemons to take home!!  Yes! Always appreciate you all sharing your citrus for us non Arizona people!!!

Easy to do (especially at a retreat) - and I'm not going to run out of strips in my lifetime!
