Basic Account Be Private   Navigating Delphi Forums

But, more on my dread with "zeta" experience, As I was out trotting around Delphi in my new threads yesterday, I came across a zeta forum, and it was a nightmare. Non responsive buttons, really fractured page formatting......So bad that I checked the "show zeta forums as classic" in my preferences before ever coming here, in fact.

But, just a few moments ago, I unchecked that feature, and reloaded.

Here is a screenshot depicting how this forum appears to me, Also notice that none of the controls work up where the red arrow points to them. And notice that the message area appears blank. Note the scroll bar location as well

Now, look in this next screen shot, how far down (red arrow) I have had to scroll to get to the message text , while the very bottom of the messages list is just barely still visible on the left margin

Any thoughts what I may be doing wrong?

Ah there we go - that makes sense.

I gave her the URL.....and she could never get the forum to load (it was zeta). So, I go back to my forum to see what the problem was.....and I couldn't get it to load, either.

Sometimes it is the actual address we pass a long that hangs things up. My usual advice is to just type in delphiforums.com to the address bar (not search) and login from the Home Page. Your forums are linked as always on the My forums page. HOWEVER if you are inviting someone to your forum for the first time make sure the link looks like this one

https://forums.delphiforums.com/service/

https://forums.delphiforums.com/service/start

If the link you pass along says messages or worse controls where the above says start just remove it.

Also Delphi has a fantastic host mentoring program HERE and as well you can continue ask questions in this forum or in Hosts Support

Usually a bad link - log out, clear your cache and try with a fresh browser session and the way I described in my post above (typing in delphiforums.com and login from there)

Ad/script blocking software might also interfere with the way the forum loads but that looks a lot like a timing issue.

The screenshots look like what I got on my old e-reader for Zeta forums. That was probably because it was an old android device.

Yes - that too would account for slow or incomplete loading.

And for the annoying big white space and extra scrolling

Well hey, I just want to thank you for your patience and kindness going over these things with me. I am sincerely appreciative.

(my last rant from the soapbox follows, not so much targeted at you, but at Dephi in general)

What use is there in utilizing a format (zeta) that requires new users to reconfigure their browsers? I personally doubt that new visitors are going to want to be charitable enough with their time to trouble shoot script blocker settings just to evaluate a new forum. I think the standard response would be for the new visitors to just dismiss the hassle, and go elsewhere.

I mean this forum, as well as the earlier forums I mentioned....loaded just fine in classic mode.

So, for me anyway I think that the "open zeta as classic" setting is going to be defacto.
I just hope that as ongoing development of the platform continues, they don't get overly comfortable developing new features for "zeta only" deployment. That would be disappointing.

Thanks again for your help!

You're welcome!

Most websites I go to ask me to disable my ad blocker. Also some of Delphi's busiest forums are in Zeta and loads of people visit daily without problem. Take THIS one for example And these guys and gals arrive on all kinds of devices.

Anyhoo - you can view as Classic without a problem and seem not too fond of Zeta so - Problem solved !
