That is a nice setup. Keep us posted on long term reliability. Looks like you removed a lot of the heat sink and packed a lot in a small space. It's my understanding that heat is the death of LEDs.

Nice build, and thanks for the info and pics. So after all of that, how much of a difference in visibility did it make for you? My concern with the stock headlight is that it doesn't throw a lot of light far enough down the road, so that I feel like doing 70mph on a dark highway is out-driving my visibility (won't see a deer until it's too late). LEDs make everything near much brighter, but still don't throw the light out there very far. They're getting better, and the lenses on these might help.

I have a Silverado so I have the 7" bucket. The Amazon $60 Daymakers are plug and play. IMHO, they do throw more light close and far compared to stock but not as far as I would like. I noticed the H4 wiring appears to turn off low beam when switching to high. I thought maybe that was a motorcycle thing but I noticed this on my auto with H4 as well. Positive about this is it switches my after market driving lights off in High mode which I think is the legal thing to do. Negative is it switches off the low and driving lights in High mode. I'm thinking this may also be due to power drain. Since I'm all LED now, I've been toying with wiring my Lows to the front turn signal low lead - the ones that stay on all the time not the blinker. That way in High mode, I have low and high from my Daymaker as well as my driving lights.

Thanks Ian, I'd be interested as to the supplier as well.

Is the light 'white' or 'blue'?  Cone angle of the light?

I think on the fins, you'll be ok on low beam, but I'd be cautious running on high for extended time.

I have tried to reply to you twice now Mick, but every time I do I get the following message "THANK YOU FOR POSTING. YOUR MESSAGE HAS BEEN RECEIVED AND WILL BE REVIEWED FOR POSTING." I don't know if it's because I included a link to amazon.co.uk

I got the unit off amazon.co.uk

I have tried to reply with a link to it twice now to Mick, but it doesn't seem to get past the review stage.

The light is very white, but I have no idea of the cone angle sorry.

Although I live in the UK my bike is an American import, so I don't have the option of turning my lights off. I have been riding with this set-up for a little over a year now.

I don't tend to ride in the dark, so can't give you a proper answer sorry. My mates who I ride behind have commented on the difference it has made to my bikes visibility to them though.

None of the pkug and play led bulbs ive tried (in the bike and the gfs car) ever have the low beam on on hi, been thru about 5 or 6 different ones. Im considering just running a wire with a 1way diode on it between the lo and hi wires in my plug so they both come on on hi, but honestly, now that im riding more at night, ive already bought some light bars, cos in my experience the only way to throw light over distance is with volume.

I'd bet that the reason none of these LED headlights run both the low-beam and high-beam lights at the same time is the lack of ability for the heat sink to handle dissipating the heat from both lights at the same time. If that's the case, and you try to modify them to both be on at the same time, you will likely damage them both.
