Hi,
I have a 2003 yamaha v-star xvs 1100 classic. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. When I’m doing parking lot slow speed drills after a few minutes I lose my friction zone and have to shut off the bike because It won’t stop with the clutch handle pulled all the way back. Once I turn it off after it sits for a couple minutes I ride home and it seems normal. I’ve adjusted the handle free play and also the clutch push rod according to specs. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Is it time for a new clutch? It has 37k miles on it. I appreciate any input. thank you. Dan.

Hi. Oil was changed about 2000 miles ago. I use Valvoline 20w 50. That’s what the previous owner used.

Possibly, try changing it with a oil for wet clutches. I like Mobil 1 V Twin 20/50. Check this out from the wKB. Change the filter also.

are you running stock spring ... they last about 25,000 .. then its time is up.. replace with Barnett Conversion Plate with OEM clutch plates .. superior up grade for the 1100..

As far as I know everything is stock. I was thinking about putting Barnett clutch in but you think it’s better to use Barnett conversion plate with OEM clutch plates? Have you done that to yours?

I can tell you this... I've replaced my stock spring with a Barnett Conversion plate and Barnett clutch pack.. I run a modified bike .. it produces 96 hp. @ 8000 rpm.. with that package, I could spin my clutch at will.. when I replaced it with the old clutch plates.. OEM with 40,000 k's on them I couldn't spin them.. the springs are 79 lbs ... stock are 35.. mine are special order.. I believe the stock springs for the Barnett are 42 lbs.. but not a 100% .. the upgrade is so much smoother.
