Hey everyone...how can I check to see if my engine has seized the simplest way? its up on a jack =\
I just got to know before I start the hunt to find out why EVERYTHING else seems to be working but when I mash the start button...crickets!

Pull the plugs and put a socket on the flywheel nut through the access cover on the left side, (Use a 'locks on' socket or use tape to keep it on the extension, if you lose it in there you'll be pulling the whole cover!) then if you can turn the engine with a ratchet it is not seized.
It is most likely: ... A) your battery, ... B) your starter, ... C) your starter switch, ... D) your starter clutch

Thanks Crazeeharry...I HOPE SO. You dont happen to know the size of the flywheel nut, Do you?

So the plugs out will release compression...right? and then I should be able to just spin the back tire if its not seized...correct?
May-30
22mm. deep socket and I'd get an extension with a lock on 'ball indent' so it doesn't come off the socket in the engine case, you are going to need one anyway for Valve adjustment etc so it is worth getting a nice extension and 22mm Deep socket.
It is all in the Star 1100 / wikiKB

Yes!
In neutral it will move the pistons and a finger over the plug hole will feel the pressure as it goes to TDC compression stroke,
first or second gear will turn the rear wheel if it is off the ground.

( : )) Yuuup.... a dedicated wrench is cheap insurance.
I hope you're well Donn, are you working on the current v* for Debbie, or a second bike for quick hops around town?
Mine is still chugging away, great & easy bikes to work on , (I'm even thinking of picking up another engine and carbs just to have on hand so the ol' gal will last as long as I do...LOL.

Kieron, Would you want my old carbs? Not sure if you'd want the engine as it had 150,000 miles on it but the carbs should be fine other than a cleaning.

Hey Ron,
A spare carb set might be handy to have, What would you want for them, I'm interested.
I got no issues but these bikes will be harder and harder to get components for as time passes.
Thank you for the thought and the offer.
Be well my friend.
