pretty sure the heat shields are not repairable once they have come loose. you could warp it with exhaust wrap. if you are going to go with an aftermarket, i think you may need to get full exhaust or you could just replace with a used OEM pipe.

good luck

Yeah, I think you're right.  I hate that the thing has rattled loose and there's just nothing I can do about it.  Seems like a design flaw.  If I could just get at the bolt head from the underside...grrr.

I guess I'll start looking for aftermarket exhaust or some used OEM's on ebay...

I tried grinding down and bending some long nose pliers to turn the phillips screw head but I couldn't get enough grip and it wouldn't budge.  I packed it with aluminum foil to stop the rattle.

I appreciate the response.  At least it confirms there isn't some stupid simple answer that I'm just not seeing.  It looked like it might be possible to grab the threads and at least get a couple threads in there.  Maybe that and a dab of jb weld might hold things in there .. at least for a bit.

Hi Chris.

I have the same problem, and the only option I can see is to cut the old heat shield off, and purchase an aftermarket one from ebay which attach by jubillee clip .

there are lots to choose from, just search motorcycle exhaust heat shields.

If it is the front pipe I have one off of an 04 1100
